Jonathan Swift (30 November 1667 – 19 October 1745) was an Irish writer who was the author of "Gulliver's Travels". During his time, Ireland was a kingdom that was ruled by Great Britain.

He based Lemuel Gulliver, the main character of his eponymous story, on himself.
